Photoshop Contest: "Girl with A Pearl Earring" by Vermeer

I love Photoshop Contests. This is a terrific modification of Vermeer's classic "Girl with a Pearl Earring" for a UK jeweler. Great source material, of course. Vermeer, the painting, and the girl were popularized by Tracy Chevalier 's book with the same title as the painting. If you haven't read the book yet...do! It's a spare and sensitive fictional look at the servant girl in the painting and her role in Vermeer's household. The small 17th century city of Delft is portrayed with masterful precision. Chevalier invents a beautiful back story. You'll enjoy it. I didn't see the movie with Scarlett Johansson. Any of you?

Photoshop Contest: Marlboro Product Placement Ad and the Catholic Church

Catholicism and its traditions have dominated the news following the Pope's recent visit to the U.S (quite justifiably, all kidding aside). So now's the time to roll out the best product placement for the church I've ever seen. Advertising is a bizarre business (believe me I do it every day for a living) and product placements, in my mind, generally are obvious and annoying. That's what's so great about this theater of the absurd Photoshop. Thank goodness the Pope's advance men covered up every single Yankee stadium sign before Sunday's mass.

McDonald's and Pirates of the Caribbean. Johnny Depp & Company meet the Big Mac. Without doubt, this is one of the best drive ups that McDonald's has ever had (of their 31,000 locations worldwide). So in anticipation of the joy of family reunions, that annual feeling of being overstuffed, wretched excess...and the anticipation of the midnight sales starting in a few hours...take a look. This is the true meaning of a Rockwell Thanksgiving through the lens of " Guess Who's Coming to Dinner." The Tracy/Hepburn/Poitier film was released 40 years ago on the 12th of December 1967. Gnite.
